KVM vs OpenVZ

Platform of hardware virtualization means the technology of turning the hardware into software and creating virtual machines with its allocated resources and its own operating system.

KVM is a full virtualization solution where each virtual machine has private virtualized hardware, so the virtual server will act completely on its own, like a little independent server that offers garanted resources, without being affected of the other virtual private servers.

OpenVZ provides OS-level virtualization wich means that the operation system is segmented into parts with resources assigned to each. The disadvantage is that the resouces are limited of the machine hardware, and exists the risk of insuficient resources when other virtual private servers will need also more resources.
