How to check disk space usage?
Monitoring disk space usage is extremely important to ensure your website functions smoothly and doesn’t exceed the limits set by your hosting provider. Below we explain how to check disk space usage via cPanel.
- Log in to your cPanel account and access Disk Usage from the Files section.
- Analyze the detailed usage report on the Disk Usage page, which includes:
- Location: The directory for which disk usage is displayed.
- Size: Indicates the amount of space used (in MB) by all files within the specified Location.
Identifying and managing disk usage is a key solution for efficiency. Delete files that are no longer needed, such as old backups or temporary files. If email storage is consuming a lot of space, you can delete old messages or empty the spam and trash folders. Access logs or cache files can also take up significant space and should be removed if no longer necessary. Optimizing databases via phpMyAdmin can help reduce the size of database-related files.
Additionally, a simple yet effective way to view overall disk statistics is to check the Statistics section on the main page of your cPanel account. The fields Disk Usage, File Usage, and Database Disk Usage are displayed in the format X/Y (Z), where X is the current usage, Y is the maximum allowed usage, and Z is the percentage used.
We recommend regularly monitoring your allocated storage space to avoid hitting the limits. Before deleting any files, create a backup of the parent folder to allow recovery in case of issues. Upgrading your hosting plan or switching to a better plan may also be a good solution.
