How to create an FTP account?
An FTP (File Transfer Protocol) account allows transferring files between a computer and a web server, thus enabling website file management. Every hosting account automatically has an existing FTP account upon creation. The access details for this FTP account are provided in an email titled Login Details.
Next, we will outline the steps for creating an FTP account in cPanel.
- Connect to your hosting account's cPanel, where you'll find the Files section. Access FTP Accounts.
- In the Add FTP Account section, fill in the following fields:
- Login: Choose a username for the FTP account; the domain prefix will be automatically added (e.g., user@example.com).
- Domain: Select a domain name for which the FTP account will be created.
- Password: For a strong password, you can use the password generator integrated into cPanel.
- Directory: Enter the directory to which the FTP user should have access.
- Quota: Set the space limit for the FTP account. You can choose the Unlimited option to allow the user to use all available server space.
- After completing these fields, you can confirm everything by clicking the Create FTP Account button.
- To verify the account, you can view the FTP Accounts section located further down.
For simpler server access via an FTP account, you can use an FTP client, such as FileZilla, where you'll need to enter the username, password, FTP server, and access port.
How can I change an FTP account password?
An FTP account password can be changed from cPanel, also in the FTP Accounts section. Next to the account for which you want to change the password, click Change Password. Then, enter the new password and confirm the changes by clicking the Change Password button.
