Complete guide on email sending limits
Web Hosting accounts at IPHOST, like with most reputable hosting providers, include outgoing email limits. These measures are necessary to protect the servers and client domains so that your messages don’t end up in spam or get blocked by services like Gmail, Yahoo, and others.
Standard limits:
- Recipients per email: 100
- Emails per hour: between 30 and 400, depending on your hosting plan
- Maximum attachment size: 50 MB
Why these limits exist:
The goal is to prevent mass email sending in a short time, which increases the risk that your server IP or domain will be blacklisted or flagged as spam. This could also affect other users on the same server.
Example: If an account sends 300 emails in 10 minutes, Gmail might detect this as spam activity. As a result, your messages could be blocked, and your domain added to a blacklist — even if your content is legitimate.
Why is the attachment limit set to 50 MB?
This limit helps ensure that you’re immediately aware if your file is too large to be delivered. It’s not a strict IPHOST rule, but rather a technical standard used by most email services, which generally don’t accept attachments larger than 50MB. For larger files, we recommend using services like Google Drive or Dropbox, and sending a download link instead.
Increasing your limit:
To raise the hourly sending limit, you’ll need to upgrade to a hosting plan that includes a dedicated IP. With that, you can send up to 400 emails per hour.
Important details:
- These limits cannot be changed by the client. Only IPHOST technicians can increase or adjust limits.
- If spam-like activity or high volumes are detected, our server filter automatically blocks further email sending.
- When a limit is exceeded, the sender receives a system notification email stating that their messages were blocked and not delivered.
Recommendation: For newsletters or email marketing campaigns, we suggest using specialized services like Mailchimp, Sendinblue, or Brevo to ensure secure and professional delivery.
